How to install the Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen door in your apartment?

The Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen Door is pretty straightforward to install.**

Items needed:

  • Hammer & Tacks/ pushpins (if used on wood)
  • “Hook and loop” tape, aka “Velcro” for use on vinyl or aluminum. You may need to get self-adhesive Velcro (that is Velcro that has glue on one side) and apply it to the doorframe if you’re worried about putting holes in your apartment.
  • A stool or small ladder, depending on the user’s height
  • a second person to assist in the operation

First, clean the door frame with a damp sponge and wipe it dry. Anything between the door and the frame may make the door less effective.

After this is done, align the Flux Phenom’s magnets while the door is flat. Failure to do this may make the screen door not work.

Then, hold the screen to the top of the doorframe. The bottom of the Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen Door should be about ¼” from the ground, floor, porch, etc. If the screen door is too close to the ground, you need to hem it.

Hemming the Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen Door’s top

  • As you hold the screen door determine where the screen door’s seam allow is ¼” from the ground. Place your finger there. If you have another person, have them hold it up while you fold. Fold the seam inward, ensuring that you’re not exposing the Velcro
  • “Tack” through both layers to secure along the total length of the screen, making sure it’s even. Use thumbtacks if you’re doing this for wood; use staples or clips to perform the same task for other surfaces.

Hemming the side(s) of the Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen Door

  • Similar to hemming the screen door’s top, look for where the screen door rests about 2” from the frame’s corner. Place your finger there. If you have another person, have them hold it up while you fold. Fold the screen door inward, ensuring you’re not exposing the Velcro. If you need to, fold the screen more than once to accomplish this.
  • “Tack” through both layers to secure along the total length of the screen, making sure it’s even. Use thumbtacks if you’re doing this for wood; use staples or clips to perform the same task for other surfaces.

Finally, use the Velcro or tacks to secure the Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen Door to the doorframe, adhering Velcro to the frame if you’re using it on vinyl or aluminum.

** Before installing the Flux Phenom Magnetic Screen Door know your apartments rules for using nails, tacks or staples. If you put holes in the doorframe, you may be required to repair them in before you leave.
